Working Principle of a WAVEGUIDE MAGIC T

A WAVEGUIDE MAGIC T is a four‑port waveguide junction that combines the properties of an E‑plane tee and an H‑plane tee.
A WAVEGUIDE MAGIC T has four ports: the E‑arm (port 1), the H‑arm (port 2), and two collinear arms (ports 3 and 4).
A WAVEGUIDE MAGIC T exhibits two key characteristics: impedance matching at all ports and isolation between specific port pairs.
In a WAVEGUIDE MAGIC T, the E‑arm and H‑arm are inherently isolated from each other—a signal injected into the E‑arm does not appear at the H‑arm, and vice versa.
A WAVEGUIDE MAGIC T also provides power division: a signal fed into the E‑arm is equally split between the two collinear arms (ports 3 and 4) with opposite phase (180° difference).
Conversely, a WAVEGUIDE MAGIC T fed from the H‑arm equally splits power between the two collinear arms with equal phase (0° difference).
When signals are applied to the collinear arms of a WAVEGUIDE MAGIC T, the E‑arm outputs the vector sum (difference), and the H‑arm outputs the vector sum (addition) of the two inputs.
A WAVEGUIDE MAGIC T achieves these properties through precise geometrical design of the junction, using internal matching posts or irises.
